One day, when I was a freshman in high school,
Bir gun, lisede iken,
I saw a kid from my cla! ss was walking home from school.
sinifimdan bir oglana rastladim eve donerken.
His name was Kyle.
Kayl idi ismi.
It looked like he was carrying all of his
books.
Okuldaki butun kitaplarini sirtlamisa benziyordu.
I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday?
Kendi kendime, "Neden biri okuldaki kitaplarini eve getirsin cuma aksami,
He must really ! be a nerd."
gerçekten hafiz olmali bu oglan" diye dusundum.
I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.
Benim hafta sonum pilanlanmisti bile( partiler ve futbol, arkadaslarimla yarin ogleden sonra), omuzlarimi silktim v! e yoluma devam ettim.
As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him.
Yoluma devam ederken, bir gurup oglanlarin ona dogru kostuklarini gordum.
They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt.
Onu itelediler, butun kitaplarini dusurttuler ve çelmeleriyle oglani çamur içine dusurttuler.
His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him.
Gozlukleri uçup oglandan uç metre oteye çimene dustu.
He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes
Oglan basini kaldirdi, gozlerinde derin bir aci gordum.
My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye.
As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks.
Gozluklerini ona verirken "Serseri herifler" dedim.
They really should get lives.
Baska yapacak isleri yok sanki.
" He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!"
Bana bakti ve "Tesekkur ederim" dedi.
There was a big smile on his face.
Kocaman bir gulumseme belirdi suratinda.
It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.
Gerçekten minnetkarlik ifade eden bir gulumseme idi.
I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived.
Kitaplarini toparlamasina yardim ettim ve nerede oturdugunu sordum.
As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before.
Tesaduf ya, bize yakin oturuyormus. Neden daha once gozume çarpmadin diye sordum.
He said he had gone to private school before now.
Daha once ozel okula gittigini soyledi.
I would have never hung out with a private school kid before.
We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books.
He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. Arkadas olunacak birine benziyordu.
I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends.
Arkadaslarimla beraber futbol oynamak istermisin dedim.
He said yes.
Evet dedi.
We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.
Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again.
Pazartesi sabahi geldi, ve Kayl butun kitaplariyla okula donuyordu.
I stopped him and said, "Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!
Durdurdum ve "Bu kitaplari hergun tasimakla guzel pazi yapacaksin" dedim.
" He just laughed and handed me half the books.
Guldu ve kitaplarinin yarisini bana uzatti.
Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends.
When we were seniors, we began to think
about college.
Okulun son yilinda koleje gitmeyi dusunm! eye basladik.
Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I
was going to Duke.
Kayl Georgetown kolejine karar verdi, bende Duke kolejine gidecektim.
I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem.
Arkadasligimizin sureceginden emindim ve aramizdaki kilomet! relerin bunu etkileyecegini sanmiyordum.
He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship.
O doctor olacakti, bende futbol bursuyla iktisat okuyacaktim. !
Kyle was valedictorian of our class.
Kayl sinif birincisiydi.
I teased him all the time about being a nerd.
Her zaman onun hafizligiyla girgir geciyordum.
He had to prepare a speech for graduation.
Sinif birincisi oldugu için mezuniyet toreninde onun konusma yapmasi gerikiyordu.
I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak
Graduation day, I saw Kyle.
Mezuniyet gunu Kayl'i gordum.
He looked great.
Çok yakisikliydi kerata.
He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school.
Lise boyunca gelisen ve benligini bulanlardandi Kayl.
He filled out and actually looked good in glasses.
Gerçekten olustu ve pazilasti ve gozlukler yakistida oglana.
He had more dates! than I had and all the girls loved him.
Boy, sometimes I was jealous.
Bazen kiskandim onu dogrusu.
Today was one of those days.
Bugun o gunlerden biriydi.
I could see that he was nervous about his speech.
Heyecanli oldugunu sezdim yapacagi konusma dolayisiyle.
So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!"
He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled.
Bana o minnetkar dolu bakisiyla bakti ve gulumsedi.
"Thanks," he said.
"Tesekkurler" dedi.
As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began
Bogazini temizledi ve konusmaya basladi:
"Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years.
Mezuniyet, bizlere buraya kadar gelmemize yardim edenlere tesekkur etme zamanidir.
Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach..but mostly your friends...
I am here to tell all of you that being a
friend to someone is the best gift you can give them.
Birisiyle arkadas olmak o kisiye verebilceginiz en buyuk hediyedir.
I am going to tell you a story."
Sizlere bir hikaye anlatacagim simdi.
I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met.
He had planned to kill himself over the weekend.
Tanistigimiz gunun hafta sonu intihar etmeyi pilanlamis megerse.
He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home.
Annesi sonradan okula gidip aci içinde onun dolabini bosaltmak zorunda kalmasin diye, megerse ogun Kayl okuldaki dolabini tamamen bosaltmis ve eve tasiyormus.
He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.
Bana derinden bakti ve gulumsedi.
"Thankfully, I was saved.
Sans olarak kurtarildim intihar etmekten.
My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."
Arkadasim beni kurtardi bu faciadan. I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment.
Topluluk mirildanmaya basladi yakisikli arkadasimin hayatinin en zor zamanini anlatmasina.
I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile.
Annesi ve babasinin bana baktiklarini ve minnet dolu gulumsemelerini gordum.
Not until that moment did I realize it's depth.

You now have two choices, you can:
Simdi iki sey yapabilirsiniz:
1) Pass this on to your friends or
Bunu arkadaslariniza gonderebilirsiniz veya
2) Delete it and act like it didn't touch your heart.
Silebilirsiniz bilgisayarinizdan sizi hiç etkilememis gibi.
As you can see, I took choice number 1.
Gordugunuz gibi ben birinciyi sectim.
